Meet the teacher - Oak

Please click here to see an overview of what we will be learning this year. You can find out more detailed infomation by visiting our Curriculum Information Documents for Year 6.

Our topic for Autumn terms 1 and 2 is 'Stars and stripes'. We will be learning about the geography of North America along with a little history of this area of the world including the lifestyle of Native American tribes. To fit in with Black History Month, we will also be studying the life of Martin Luther King and his impact on American society. American artists studied will include Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. Our class reader this term is 'Holes' by Louis Sachar which is set in Texas and New York. We are also excited to have a robotics workshop this term.

PE days are Tuesday and Friday- both will be outside at the moment so children will need warm clothes and trainers or pumps on both days. Homework will be set as usual on Wednesdays to be completed by the following Monday. This will be online.

Please continue to read with your child regularly each week and remind your child to return their book to school when they have finished it along with their reading record. This enables us to monitor their progress in reading. The children have signed a reading contract (see inside their reading record) in which we have promised to read to them for 10 minutes minimum each day and in return, they will read at home 5 x a week for 10 minutes. It is crucially important that they continue to read at home and that the reading record is kept up to date and signed by parents/carers.

Mrs Thomas will be taking the class every Tuesday.

We are very pleased that the children have returned to school after such a long absence with such positive attitudes. We have a long way to go and lots to do to prepare them for year 7. They will need to work hard this year and maintain focus if they are to achieve their potential but we have every faith in them! This is very much a team effort and we thank you in advance for your continued support.

Mrs Allsop
