About Us

All about us ….

Micklands Ethos and Vision

  • At Micklands we aim to ensure that all children develop to their full potential and that we prepare them for the opportunities and experiences for adult life. We aim to achieve this by providing high quality teaching and learning in a happy, inclusive community.
  • At Micklands we provide an education which places importance on the development of the whole child, academically, intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially.
  • We provide a safe and happy environment that raises children’s self-esteem and a balanced creative curriculum that develops the whole child.
  • We have high expectations for behaviour and achievement. If necessary we work closely with parents whose child is experiencing difficulties.
  • We have a strong Governing Body who are committed to our vision and support and challenge us to achieve it.
  • We provide equal opportunities for learning regardless of gender, culture, race, creed or ethnic origin. Where each person is valued and is made aware that they have the potential to make a positive contribution to the school.

In addition, Micklands is committed to safeguarding children, promoting their welfare so we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We hope that our website gives you an insight into the work and life of our happy and thriving school.

We are a vibrant school that does our very best to ensure children flourish throughout their time with us; developing a passion for learning, thriving as individuals and achieving their academic potential.

We have clear boundaries and expectations in order to provide a safe, caring, healthy and friendly environment for all of our children and their families.

We work in close partnership with parents/carers so that they can play an active part in their child’s education.

Our beautiful expansive outdoor space complemented by our creative  and stimulating curriculum allows children  to learn and succeed beyond the classroom as well as within it.

As an inclusive, caring school, we recognise that all children have talents and abilities to celebrate, and a part of our role is to help them discover and develop these.  We

encourage a strong community spirit, where we show consideration and respect for each other; understand differences, and uphold kind, well-mannered behaviour.

The learning community of Micklands  Primary School has a shared vision that every child deserves to be successful.  We challenge and develop our children to become curious, autonomous learners who are inspired and stimulated through a rich and varied curriculum; appropriate to individual needs. We develop children’s learning skills and by setting high expectations and using the school’s ten learning habits, we prepare our children to flourish, have high self-esteem and self beliefs

Throughout their time with us, we encourage children to be positive, responsible and considerate young people who can work cooperatively with others whilst also being confident and successful as independent learners.

The Staff School Culture

We believe that people achieve more when they feel happy, secure and valued. Our philosophy is to educate the whole person; we want the children to enjoy their learning and we have high expectations for their academic, creative and social progress. Team spirit is very much part of the ethos here and there is high expectations of all staff, pupils and parents to work cooperatively, to make a positive contribution to the life of the school and to give their best.

There is a focused commitment on “Teaching and Learning”, which includes, staff, families and the community and we are proud of what we do. There is an emphasis on mutual support through which we develop our shared professionalism. We are reflective and adaptive in our practise. This is a safe place to make mistakes – making mistakes is a good way to learn!

All staff and governors at Micklands place the well-being and learning of pupils at the centre of their professional practice. They have high expectations for all pupils, are committed to addressing underachievement, and work to help pupils progress regardless of their background and personal circumstances.

They treat pupils fairly and with respect, take their knowledge, views, opinions and feelings seriously, and value diversity and individuality. They model the characteristics they are trying to inspire in pupils, including enthusiasm for learning, a spirit of enquiry, honesty, tolerance, social responsibility, patience, and a genuine concern for other people

Our School Reflection

We always work our hardest and try our best

We like to have fun when learning

Taking pride, aiming high

And never giving up

We are proud of our beautiful environment

Taking care to look after it

We always help and look after each other

We never walk away

Our teachers believe in us and help us

When we find things challenging

Celebrating success is very important to us

However small this may be.
